The Story

When their father, the king, grew old and frail, he decided to pass the throne to Purbasari, recognizing her virtues. She enlisted the help of a powerful witch who cursed Purbasari, causing her skin to become covered in dark spots. Declaring that Purbasari was no longer fit to rule, Purbararang banished her to the forest.

Heartbroken and alone, Purbasari wandered the forest, searching for a place to rest. One day, she encountered a magical ape named Lutung Kasarung. Unbeknownst to Purbasari, Lutung Kasarung was actually a prince named Guru Minda who had been cursed to live as an ape. Moved by Purbasari’s plight, Lutung Kasarung vowed to help her.

Lutung Kasarung led Purbasari to a beautiful hidden garden, where he cared for her and provided her with food and shelter.
